The most effective and efficient way of reducing high utility costs, is tightening of your home’s envelop. This is how most buildings lose energy related to heating and cooling. Once tightened, significant and immediate savings can be expected. Making your building perform better carries the fastest return on investment a home or business owner can make; not to mention the reduction in carbon footprint and related positive effects on our planet.

Green Energy Act, located at the nearby Monroe, and serving the Hudson Valley, specializes in both energy efficiency and sustainable energy solutions. The company is BPI™ (Building Performance Institute) and NYSERDA accredited.

Teaming with the Village of Greenwood Lake the following plan was created:
  1. Comprehensive Home Assessment, also called CHA or Energy Audit, is the best first step a home or business owner should take in order to get on the road for savings. It is like doing a physical for the building, finding out what issues related to energy exist. The Energy Audit consists of a blower door test, measurements of air infiltration rates, insulation levels, heating, cooling and appliances efficiency, as well as health and safety readings. This assessment, which typically costs $500, is offered to residents of the Village of Greenwood Lake who elect to enroll with the program by the end of October 2009, at 10% off. But wait, there is more!
  2. Green Energy Act will set aside additional 10% towards green projects for the village! Projects that will save energy and money for the entire community. Click here for a list of planned projects.
  3. Following the audit, measures will be recommended such as insulation, air-sealing, use of high efficiency heating and cooling systems including, if feasible and financially sensible, geothermal; and other methods of sustainable energy (wind, photovoltaic etc.). The measures suggested will be discounted as well for Greenwood Lake’s residents, and will award the Village with additional funds towards its green projects!
